Cancelled DC Universe show Swamp Thing finds new life at The CW
The cancelled DC Universe series will return to screens on The CW in the fall.
The DC Universe streaming service has been producing a lot of original content, providing fans with new and exciting live-action and animated adventures featuring some of their favorite DC Comics characters.
While all of its live-action shows Titans, Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing have, at one point or another, received praise from fans and critics, the latter of those was unfortunately cancelled last year. Yes, in spite of Swamp Thing‘s strong critical reputation and overwhelming popularity, the horror series was scrapped by the streaming service just a week after it premiered to rave reviews.
However, according to TVLine, the one-and-done show will find a second life (sort of) as the broadcast rights have been acquired by DC TV’s other home The CW, meaning that the first season will have its TV premiere on the network.

The home of Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and soon to be the home of Superman & Lois and hopefully Green Arrow and The Canaries, The CW will also show DC Universe series Stargirl on May 19 – one night after its premiere streams on the service. It will then continue to show episodes weekly – one night after their DC Universe debut.
Swamp Thing is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and ran for 10 episodes last summer. Crystal Reed headlined the horror series as medical doctor Abby Arcane, who showed up when a Louisiana swamp begin exhibiting troubling signs. Derek Mears co-headlined the show as Swamp Thing himself.
The CW also acquired the broadcast rights to recently-cancelled CBS All Access series Tell Me A Story as well as Coroner and Dead Pixels as it is filling out its fall schedule given that production on all TV shows have been shut down during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Who knows, maybe if Swamp Thing proves to be popular, it could end up getting revived for season 2. This is television, after all… stranger thing have happened.
