The co-stars of Jungle Cruise team-up on a unique take on the superhero genre with a film adaption of Ball and Chain.
As reported by Deadline, Jungle Cruise co-stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, are joining forces once more to produce a superhero film based on a ‘90s four-issue graphic novel Ball and Chain by Scott Lobdell and Alé Garza published by Homage Comics – an imprint and subdivision of WildStorm now currently owned by DC Comics.
Blunt and Johnson will star as a married couple, who are facing divorce, and in unsuspected circumstances end up on the wrong end of a freak accident involving a meteor which (you guessed it) miraculously grants the pair incredible superhuman abilities.
The Big Slick scribe Emily V. Gordon, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, has penned the film’s script. No director, as of yet is attached, but it will be produced by Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions label.

Johnson and Blunt will portray Edgar and Mallory Bulson aka Thunderball and Chain respectively, a bickering couple, who possess super-strength, speed, flight and invulnerability, but are only when they are together. The official description for the comic is as follows:
"“Edgar and Mallory Bulson have decided to throw in the towel. That was the plan anyway until a mysterious meteor bathed the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that gave them superpowers. Will their newfound abilities be enough to make their marriage work?”"
In an initial report by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Misher Films is working with Seven Bucks – two parties who previously collaborated on wrestling drama Fighting With My Family (starring Florence Pugh from the upcoming Black Widow). This will be Blunt’s producing debut (through Ledbury Productions) and it has been confirmed that the film will land on Netflix.
Johnson is a very, very busy man in Hollywood, as Hobbs & Shaw 2 is currently in development and Jungle Cruise’s Jaume Collet-Serra is helming DC Films’ Black Adam. As for multi-award winning actress Blunt, she recently starred in Mary Poppins Returns, John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place and is set to return for the latter’s sequel later this year.
