10. Steve Rogers and Tony Stark: Breaking up the Band

Civil War may be the most popular comic book crossover event in Marvel Comics history. We’ve seen heroes fighting each other before – that’s nothing new. The part that changed everything was the legality of it all.

The United States Government made it illegal for anyone with powers to operate without signing up and becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Some of the heroes fought back. Others decided to sign on. Each side had their own leader as well. On one side, you had Steve Rogers leading the resistance. On the other, you had Tony Stark leading the pro-registration side.

A documentary based on this would undoubtedly be must-watch TV. Tony Stark didn’t make a lot of friends during this time. His peers lost respect for him and some of them wanted to fight. Thor and Iron Man went head-to-head. It wasn’t much of a battle. Thor whooped him. It would be interesting to see what his friends think about it now. Have they truly forgiven him?

Steve Rogers isn’t exempt from criticism either. In the end, he gave up and turned himself in to the police. He started a war and left his soldiers. Do they respect him for this or do they hold some resentment?

Lastly, what does the government think about all of this? In the end, the Superhero Registration Act was overturned. They must have been angry. All of that work for things just to go back to normal.

Do you think they tried to set up another law in private? We would certainly find out here.
