With Ruby Rose’s departure, it now seems that Batwoman season 2 will feature a brand new character taking up the mantle of the Scarlet Knight.

Two weeks ago, Batwoman fans were both stunned and heartbroken to learn that Ruby Rose had exited the show. Rose, of course, played the titular role of Kate Kane/Batwoman, so her exit left the CW show – which had just completed its truncated first season – in something of a strange predicament for the second season.

However, a statement from the network assured fans that Batwoman would be continuing and that they would be recasting the Scarlet Knight with a new LGBTQ actress.

While this understandably led to speculation as to how they’d explain the recast in-show, a new rumor suggests that we’re not just getting a new actress but an entirely new Batwoman.

As reported by Decider, a seemingly leaked casting call suggests that The CW is looking for a character by the name of Ryan Wilder to play the titular role.

Now, while that could indeed be a front for a more famous name, the character description still lists the role as “Female, Mid-late 20s, any ethnicity” before adding that “Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman”. On top of that, the report also states that “she’s nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her”.

While it’s still not been officially confirmed, replacing the character of Kate Kane would be a huge gamble because fans have grown attached to her. Furthermore, having a new character come in and replace Kate takes away the interesting family dynamic between the Scarlet Knight and Alice – not-to-mention it would let all the air out of the brewing drama between Batwoman and Commander Kane.
