Rumor has it that a new Clown Prince of Crime may make his presence felt in Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy…

With the production of Matt Reeves’ The Batman  hopefully set to resume soon (under the new safety guidelines), you can bet that fans will once again be excited at prospect of the new Dark Knight. However, if this new rumor is to believed, we may have a new version of the Clown Prince of Crime incorporated into the franchise in the near future.

According to The Direct‘s contributing insider Daniel Richtman, Reeves is hoping to introduce a brand new Joker into subsequent films in his The Batman trilogy wherein the Clown Prince of Crime will be one of the films’ multiple villains.

The character recently appeared in his own self-titled thriller Joker in which he was portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix – a performance that garnered critical acclaim for the Todd Phillips film and earned Phoenix Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award wins (among others) for Best Actor.

More from Batman

Another actor will likely become The Joker but they will certainly have a lot of big shoes to fill after the aforementioned Phoenix, the late, great Heath Ledger and the legendary Jack Nicholson.

According to the report, the villain may be referenced during the first film – next October’s The Batman – but isn’t expected to make an appearance. He is instead believed to serve as a major antagonistic presence in both a second and third potential films in the planned trilogy – something that might make him the Big Bad of the film series, if you will.
