The Eternals star, Salma Hayek, who is playing the leader of superhero group Ajak has revealed that reshoots could be starting soon…

It has already been established that the forthcoming 25th entry in the MCU, The Eternals, won’t be hitting theaters on the date it was originally supposed to.

Though it wrapped principal photography back in February, the film – helmed by Chloé Zhao – was originally scheduled for release on November 6 this year and was ultimately pushed to February 12, 2021 due to the impact that the novel coronavirus outbreak had on the cinema industry. And as a result of the whole film schedule getting bumped, 24th MCU installment Black Widow will now take its place in November.

However, one of the film’s main stars, Salma Hayek, has revealed that reshoots are on the horizon. She shared a before and after image on Instagram of her hair after doing her roots “in anticipation” of the oncoming reshoots. You can check the post out below:

As ComicBook.com points out, though reshoots were once considered a bad omen for the film in question, that’s not necessarily the case anymore.

In hindsight, it should not really be a sign of a film’s journey downhill into failure as there are different types of reshoots that both independent and tentpole films employ: one that is commonplace that most films do is pickups and the alternative is when aspects need micro or macro additional filming of scenes.

Marvel Studios President and CCO, Kevin Feige, once spoke of the importance of reshoots, adding that they are a huge part of their studio’s filmmaking process. He revealed:

"“We always say we’re smart filmmakers at Marvel, but we’re not geniuses and the best way to give notes on a movie is to watch the movie. So we make the movie and do, ‘Oh yeah, no that’s not right. That doesn’t work,’ and have a system now that can be quite precise and efficient.”"

Pickups and minor reshoots are fine as they assemble a nice cut of a film to adjust the continuity, pace, style, tone, shots, display of characters that the studio may want.

However, major reshoots are often considered worrisome for fans – hence the trend of general audiences and enthusiasts’ hesitancy of a film’s quality when the term “reshoots” is thrown around.

The Eternals stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Gemma Chan, Barry Keoghan and Kit Harington. The Eternals is directed by Chloé Zhao with a screenplay penned by Matthew K. Firpo and Ryan Firpo. Kevin Feige and Mitchell Bell are producing under Marvel Studios with Walt Disney Studios distributing. It will blast into theaters Feb. 12, 2021.
