Co-showrunner Phil Klemmer opened up about how Legends of Tomorrow season 6 will feature aliens.

It appears that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 6 will deal with an alien invasion – yet again! The co-showrunner of the Arrowverse show, Phil Klemmer, revealed that the next season will focus on aliens in a pastiche to classic properties according to an exclusive by Entertainment Weekly.

The season 5 finale saw the team of adventurers and misfits destroying the Loom of Fate. Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) left the Legends and returned back to ‘70s London, Astra Logue (Olivia Swann) received a second chance at life and put her rivalry with John Constantine (Matt Ryan) behind her and Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) who regained her sight after taking down Atropos, was unfortunately abducted by aliens.

This is obviously not the first time Legends of Tomorrow has dealt with an alien invasion, in fact, there was the 2016 Arrowverse crossover Invasion! which involved The Dominators. Klemmer revealed that that Dominators may not be the only extraterrestrial race you may see because they “would like there to be a whole motley assortment of them”.

EW also revealed the writers have already started breaking story for the sixth season (the show was renewed earlier this year). Klemmer spoke a little about how he wants each alien to add to the show’s episodic format:

"“We want each alien to provide a novel genre for each episode. We’ve only broken three of these things. We have one [where] we meet a new Legend who’s kind of alien conspiracy theorist. Then, we have another episode that’s kind of ’50s burger wars – sort of like an American Graffiti shape.”"

Klemmer acknowledges how meta the show can be as Legends excels when it employs comedic elements and makes use of common tropes in a parody-like fashion. He also commented about wanting the upcoming season to contain an episode with a “B-movie creature-feature element.”

Next season of Legends will see a reshuffling of the team roster as original Legend Brandon Routh will be exiting the show along with his wife Courtney Ford (the pair who played Ray Palmer and Nora Darhk left midseason). Richardson-Sellers will also be departing.

The season will see Sara (Lotz), Constantine (Ryan), Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan), Mick Rory/Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) and Zari Tarazi (Tala Ashe) return, while Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian) will return in a greater capacity.
