Marvel movies: The best and worst MCU dads
It’s Father’s Day and in honor of the day, we at Bam Smack Pow decided to take a stroll down memory lane at the best and worst dads in MCU history.
Hopefully, many of our fatherly readers are enjoying their special day today, or spending it with their own father, or celebrating the memories you’ve made together. For the comic book fans among you, you might even be spending it watching your favorite Marvel or MCU movies.
Any big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have noticed that the MCU has a running theme of fatherhood; how characters deal with the prospect themselves, being fatherless, or becoming father figures. In short, there’s a lot of dads in the MCU and now seems like as good a time as any to separate the best from the worst in the franchise.
Best: Yondu
“He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.” Truer words were never uttered in the MCU until Yondu said this. Mind you, Yondu had his flaws. After all, the first Guardians Of The Galaxy film saw him steal from and threaten to kill Peter Quill in multiple instances.
Yondu’s biggest problem was that he had no idea how to raise a child and settled on raising Quill more like a member on his crew. But to his credit, Yondu tried and always had a soft spot for the kid enough to care and show the only kind of love and tenderness that an alien could understand. That’s more to we can say about Quill’s actual father.
Worst: Ego
Speaking of Quill’s father, Yondu probably described Ego best when he said, “that guy was a jackass.” How else can we describe a guy who had several children around the galaxy with unsuspecting women only to kill them until he found the perfect offspring? A jackass, indeed.
