Morena Baccarin has not been asked to join Deadpool 3 yet

Morena Baccarin’s fate in a possible Deadpool 3 film has been debated for a while, but as of now she doesn’t seem to be returning to the franchise.

Morena Baccarin, the actor who played Vanessa Carlysle in the Deadpool films, has not had any conversations about returning to the franchise in Deadpool 3.

ComicBook.com reports how Baccarin revealed in a recent Couch Surfing interview with EW that the film is still being written, but the actor has not been contacted to reprise the role.

Baccarin’s return has been debated ever since her character was killed off in the second film but is speculated to be alive again since Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) reset the timeline.

With Deadpool having messed with the timeline, it’s possible to imagine Carlysle returning, but this time with powers of her own. In the comics, Carlysle is a mutant with shape-shifting abilities called Copycat and the character is part of X-Force, the team led by Cable and Deadpool. Deadpool already has a team in the films, and Cable could join him and start up X-Force in the live-action Deadpool 3 film. This would allow Baccarin more screen time and a worthwhile arc. The actor herself mentioned that she would like the opportunity to play a bigger role alongside Reynolds in the films. Most would agree.

Baccarin’s Carlysle has been severely underserved in the franchise. She was little more than a love interest during her curtailed screen time in the wildly popular Deadpool. Carlysle disappeared for the middle part of the film, before returning as the damsel in distress in the final act.

She fared even worse in the second film. After accepting Wade’s transformation and mercenary life, Carlysle and Wade restarted their relationship, got engaged and even considered starting a family. And then she was unceremoniously fridged within the first ten minutes of the second film to advance Deadpool’s revenge fest.

The franchise filmmakers have assured fans that a third film will be released, but things are a little more complex since the Fox and Disney merger. Deadpool 3 will purportedly be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we do not know how that will impact the film and the characters.
