Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker has arrived on DC Universe and you should absolutely be watching it this weekend!
If you find yourself in need of something to watch this weekend, DC Universe just might have what you’re looking for. As per usual, the DC Comics streaming service has added a number of classic films, new TV episodes and comic releases to its line-up this month and among them is a certain classic DC Animated Universe Batman film.
Yes, that’s right: The platform has officially added Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker to its collection of DC films.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is on DC Universe
Released back in 2000, Return of the Joker was a direct-to-video spin-off/sequel to critically-acclaimed animated series Batman Beyond. While that show followed the life of a young Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle), who attempted to juggle life as a high school student with nights as New Gotham’s Dark Knight, the film centered on the return of the original Caped Crusader’s greatest nemesis. We are, of course, talking about The Joker.

As the show was a direct sequel to the classic Batman: The Animated Series, Kevin Conroy reprised his role as the aged Bruce Wayne who served as a mentor to Terry, molding him into the hero that New Gotham needed. That also meant that the film featured the return of Mark Hamill as the Clown Prince of Crime and, well, with those two back together, you can rest assured that it’s an endless thrill.
As a portion of the film is set within the modern The New Batman Adventures timeline, it also features the returns of Tara Strong, Mathew Valencia and Arleen Sorkin – who reprise their roles as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Tim Drake/Robin and Harley Quinn respectively.
It is widely regarded as one of The Dark Knight’s greatest animated adventures and, much like most DCAU series, is considered by many to be superior to much of the live-action offerings.
