Rumor: Michael Keaton to star in a live-action Batman Beyond movie
According to a new rumor, we may be about to see Michael Keaton starring in a Batman Beyond film in the DCEU.
There weren’t many people who weren’t stunned by the revelation that Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise the role of Batman by making an appearance in the DC Extended Universe‘s The Flash movie in 2021. After all, for many, Keaton was the definitive Dark Knight, with many holding his performances in 1989’s Batman and its 1992 sequel Batman Returns up as the greatest of them all.
What’s even more shocking, however, is that a new rumor – which has now been backed up by insider Daniel Richtman – claims that his return to the role could pave the way for a live-action Batman Beyond film set within the DCEU.
While nothing is confirmed yet, it was previously speculated that he would play a Nick Fury-esque role in the DCEU, serving as a guiding figure for younger heroes, and perhaps even playing a significant role in the long-teased Batgirl movie. However, if the Batman Beyond rumors are true, this would have him playing a similar role – only with Terry McGinnis instead of Barbara Gordon.

For anyone unfamiliar, Batman Beyond (or Batman of The Future) is a classic animated series that ran for three seasons from 1999 until 2001. It was a sequel series to the legendary Batman: The Animated Series and focused on a young Terry McGinnis – a high school student who ultimately becomes New Gotham’s Dark Knight. The show also featured the return of Kevin Conroy, who reprised his role as the aged Bruce Wayne who trained Terry to be the hero he ultimately was.
There have been a lot of rumors circulating in regards to a Batman Beyond film, with some even suggesting that Keaton put forward Tim Burton as a potential director. As none of this has been officially confirmed, it’s worth taking with a pinch of salt because, at the end of the day, plans could always change.
That said, seeing Keaton act as a mentor to a young Batman of the future is a sight that would absolutely be worth seeing.
