It has been four months since first unit production on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was suspended, and now it is set to resume this month…

According to Deadline, first-unit production on Marvel Cinematic Universe film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will resume in Sydney, Australia at Fox Studios later this month.

Shang-Chi, helmed by Short Term 12 director Destin Daniel Cretton, was one of the countless productions temporarily shut down due to the ongoing health-crisis that swept across the entertainment industry as many major studios were forced to shut down productions on their films and TV shows due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Cretton was advised to get tested for COVID-19 and he self-isolated due to his newborn baby. Fortunately, he tested negative for the virus.

Understandably, the cast and crew of Shang-Chi who travel over to Australia will have to participate in a series of precautions and will be quarantined upon arrival. The Australian government will provide accommodations to those involved.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Filming of The Legend of the Ten Rings began in February before it was halted in March for approximately four months.

Details of the film’s story have been scarce and kept under wraps but fans of the comics are quite aware of some key changes from the source material – such as the involvement of the Ten Rings organization and the father of Shang-Chi.

Shang-Chi’s father has been changed from Fu Manchu to the Mandarin due to the fact that Marvel is no longer in possession of the rights to the Sax Rohmer pulp novels. The Mandarin has been foreshadowed in the MCU since Phase One in Iron-Man.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as the titular Master of Kung Fu, Tony Leung as the Mandarin, as well as Awkwafina and Ronny Chieng.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing a screenplay from David Callaham, Kevin Feige is set to produce under Marvel Studios, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Jonathan Schwartz serve as executive producers.

Shang-Chi will mark the 26th installment in the MCU (as part of Phase Four) with Walt Disney Studios distributing. It is set for release on May 7, 2021.
