Johnny Depp

Current rumors suggest that the one and only Johnny Depp is being eyed to play Matt Reeves’ Joker, but let’s not get too excited at the news just yet. Depp’s name tends to pop up in Joker fan-castings pretty much every single time Warner Bros. decides to look for a new actor to play the maniacal Clown Prince of Crime. This could be nothing more than smoke and mirrors again, but it’s easy to see why people are so adamant about wanting to see Depp play The Joker.

Depp has always been known as something of a chameleon actor. Whether he’s playing someone as flamboyant as Captain Jack Sparrow, stoic as Edward Scissorhands, straight-faced as Gilbert Grape, or manic as Willy Wonka, Depp finds a way to consistently bleed his way into a role without showing any trace of the actor behind the makeup.

At his heart, Johnny Depp is a character actor and there are few more tantalizing characters which character actors would love to sink their teeth into than The Joker. Seeing the three time Best Actor Oscar nominee introduce his own interpretation of such a tantalizing, often duplicated character as The Joker would certainly make for a fascinating watch.
