Daniel Brühl opens up about Helmut Zero completing his transformation by wearing the iconic mask in MCU series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

As many moviegoers are undoubtedly aware, actor Daniel Brühl is set to reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Helmut Zemo in the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-led MCU series was initially set to drop sometime later in 2020 but due to everything happening right now, production has been delayed.

In a recent interview with Collider, Brühl discussed the eagerly-anticipated project, clarifying some more details about his role as Zemo and how thrilled he was playing the villainous mastermind from Captain America: Civil War once again. He even mentioned the iconic Zemo mask.

This is what he stated:

"“[I] got the news that they wanted me to come back to shoot The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I remember that Kari Skogland, the director, came to Budapest and we recorded something with me being Zemo, and I was very happy and enthusiastic to see the mask. I was incredibly thrilled to go back because I remember that I had a lot of fun being in something completely different and getting to explore the MCU and become part of that.”"

As confirmed by Collider, the footage Brühl recorded ended up being in the teaser with him fully embodying the identity of Zemo. He did not mention too much about the Zemo mask but went on to conclude:

"“I have the fondest memories of collaborating with all of these wonderful actors, and to see Sebastian Stan again, and Anthony Mackie, this time around, and to come back to something which, on the one hand, being something completely new and something fresh.”"

The last we saw of Zemo, he used the Sokovia Accords to his advantage, not only enforcing the moderation and supervision of enhanced individuals but dividing the Avengers – by essentially using Bucky Barnes (aka Winter Soldier) as a patsy. He received a pyrrhic victory, if you will, before eventually being incarcerated under the custody of Everett Ross.

Brühl admitted the current pandemic has affected the production of the series but maintained hopeful that they will be able to wrap up before the year’s end. We are uncertain when the series will drop on the Disney Plus streamer, but expect more announcements to come out soon, perhaps even during Comic-Con@Home.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp and Wyatt Russell. Malcolm Spellman serves as head writer and executive producer with Kevin Feige and Kari Skogland directing all six episodes, and the series is tentatively expected to drop on Disney Plus in fall 2020.
