Stargirl season 1, episode 9: [SPOILER] discovers Courtney’s JSA secret
The latest episode of Stargirl saw another major character discover the truth about Courtney and Pat’s Justice Society of America secret.
Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) has been having a bit of a rough time lately on DC Universe series Stargirl when it comes to keeping her identity a secret.
After falling in a brutal battle against Shiv/Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy), Courtney found herself on the wrong end of her wrath as she showed up at her home and revealed that she knew she was the Star-Spangled Girl giving the Injustice Society such a hard time.
Her threats inspired Courtney to fight back and protect the lives of her friends. As a result, Stargirl then confronted Cindy at her home and the two had an intense battle on the street. However, the pair were interrupted by Henry King Jr. (Jake Austin Walker), who was in the process of figuring out his own Brainwave-like abilities – at which point, he also discovered that Stargirl was Courtney.
All that excitement in last week’s episode didn’t give Courtney a reprieve because, right when she least expected it, her mother Barbara Whitmore (Amy Smart) found her holding the Cosmic Staff.
How will Barbara react to Courtney’s Stargirl secret?
After Barbara had invited Jordan Mahkent (Neil Jackson) and his family – including Cameron (Hunter Sansone) – over for dinner in the latest episode, Courtney correctly discovered that her mother’s boss was actually ISA villain Icicle. But right as she lifted the Cosmic Staff, Barbara entered the cellar and demanded to know what was happening – and, more importantly, what it was.

While it’s possible (but unlikely) that Courtney could attempt to convince her mother that she’s anything but a superhero, her stepfather Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) has been eager to open up to his wife for sometime now – attempting to do so twice. So you can rest assured that the pair will open up to her about everything in next week’s episode.
With all that in mind, you have to wonder how Barbara will react to the fact that her daughter and her husband had been keeping secrets for months – not-to-mention the fact that the secret involves her daughter risking her life as a superhero. And then you have the fact that Pat never revealed his history about his youth with the original Justice Society of America as Stripesy.
No doubt Barbara will eventually forgive her family, but will this bring about the end of Stargirl’s heroics, or will she find a way to overcome the possible hurt she’ll understandably feel?
How do you think Barbara will process this shocking information that her daughter is Stargirl and her husband is S.T.R.I.P.E.? Let us know in the comments below!
