Last month, Matt Reeves’ The Batman was granted the go-ahead to resume principal photography in the UK but there is one major change.

A new report from MovieWeb has revealed that director/writer of The Batman, Matt Reeves, is making preparations to resume shooting the Robert Pattinson-led DC movie in the UK. However, there is one major change in the filming process: The project will no longer be shooting on location. Instead, preparations are being made so that filming can be done in an assembled studio with new sets built.

With most of the production on location around the UK, shooting began January this year in London, England before production was halted after the crew filmed in Glasgow, Scotland in mid-February. On March 25, Reeves took to social-media and updated the fans, revealing that work on the film had been shut down indefinitely due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Last month, the government in the UK issued the green light for all major film and TV productions to continue shooting under new safety guidelines (which was signed off by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport). This granted productions like Mission: Impossible 7 and the third Fantastic Beasts offering to resume filming.

The current situation that stands now is the director is getting ready to proceed with principal photography on The Batman in September. This lengthy hiatus has allowed Reeves time to rethink the process, but he did make it clear back in April that no script rewrites would be needed. Most likely filming will take place in a studio within England to meet safety guidelines.

Centering on a young, but established caped crusader rather early on in his crime-fighting career The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard.

Matt Reeves is directing from a screenplay he has co-written with Mattson Tomlin. Reeves and Dylan Clark are producing for Pearl Street Films in association with 6th and Idaho Productions. Warner Bros. Pictures is set to distribute.
