Is something big missing from Comic-Con@Home?
Comic-Con@Home starts next week, but why is Marvel a virtual no-show?
The panels are confirmed, the schedules are set, and next week you can stream every SDCC panel for free! However, Marvel has a limited presence and Lucasfilm is nowhere to be seen. There is little to no explanation as to why their presence is light this year.
Every year people get ready for the latest stream of new additions to the MCU, however, Marvel won’t have any heavy-hitting from Hall H. Is it because COVID-19 delayed production on last year’s announcements? Is it because they are waiting to promote everything once the NBA season returns?
Even if there are no MCU announcements next week, we will at least get a look at their newest Hulu series Helstrom, Marvel 616 on Disney Plus, and there is also a panel on the long-awaited non-MCU film The New Mutants. We may even get some updates on planned events in their comic book series.
DC will also be noticeably absent from making any large film or television announcements at SDCC, but their announcement plans are already public. On August 22, DC will host, for 24 hours DC Fandome. Fandome will offer the blockbuster-style announcements regarding their upcoming slate of film and TV programming which is typically released at SDCC.
It is truly mind-boggling to see no announced plans from Marvel, which begs the question: Are they losing some steam after the completion of the Infinity Saga? Marvel has clearly been playing catch-up in choosing which comic titles to release in print vs. digitally where DC has been slightly more organized. Is DC Fandome going to effectively set the stage for the DCEU to overtake Marvel on our screens? Or does the MCU have something bigger up its sleeve?
Even if the heavy hitters are missing from the line-up are you still excited for Comic-Con@Home? Which panels do you plan on tuning in for? Let us know in the comments below!
