Ryan Reynolds has put the speculation revolving around a Black Adam appearance to rest, but that didn’t stop him from teasing a Green Lantern return in the Snyder Cut of Justice League…

Ryan Reynolds has made a name for himself in the superhero genre over the past decade. This, of course, is due to the fact that he played the titular character in critically-acclaimed R-Rated comic book film Deadpool and its sequel Deadpool 2.

Those were films based on the Marvel Comics character. But recently, there have been a number of rumors suggesting that the veteran performer would make his presence felt in DC’s upcoming Black Adam.

Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular character, Black Adam is set in the DC Extended Universe and is a spin-off of the highly-successful Shazam!. Rumors floating around suggested that Reynolds would portray Hawkman in the movie.

Reynolds himself took to social media to address the rumors in his trademark tongue-in-cheek fashion, tweeting:

Revealing that he’s not going to be in the film, he sent the internet into meltdown by adding that he would instead love to appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, suggesting that he might already be in it. This naturally led to fans speculating that he would reprise his role from 2011’s critically-reviled Green Lantern.

Is Ryan Reynolds in Justice League?

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the director’s cut of the film that hit theaters back in 2017. Having gone down in history as one of the most disappointing superhero movies of all time, the theatrical cut of Justice League was worked on by both Snyder and Joss Whedon (who took over from Snyder halfway through the film).

Since then, fans have campaigned for the Snyder Cut to be released. It was later revealed by Warner Bros. that the film would make its way to new streaming service HBO Max next year under the title of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

While Reynolds’ comment was undoubtedly a joke, it has led to fans speculating as to whether or not he’ll be able to appear in it. Green Lantern was a long-rumored character for the DCEU’s Justice League (and the Lanterns were even referenced in the film) but he never showed up.

Snyder’s cut is reportedly going to be dramatically different than the theatrical version, meaning that we could theoretically see Hal Jordan show up if that was indeed the original plan. Who knows, maybe they’ll use recycled footage from the 2011 movie. After all, that’s what they did in the Arrowverse’s Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover.
