Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim has revealed more crucial information about planned Arrow spin-off Green Arrow and The Canaries.

It’s been over six months since “Green Arrow and The Canaries” first aired on our screens. Airing as a backdoor pilot, the Arrowverse adventure took place during the ninth (and penultimate) episode of Arrow‘s final season.

Set 20 years in the future, the episode centred on Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance, Juliana Harkavy’s Dinah Drake and Katherine McNamara’s Mia Queen in a post-Crisis On Infinite Earths in 2040 as the latter still attempted to come to grips with her father, Oliver Queen’s, death. From there, the two Black Canary characters eventually convinced her to carry on his mantle.

In spite of a very positive reception and season-high ratings for Arrow, The CW has yet to make an announcement on whether or not Green Arrow and The Canaries is moving forward as a series. That hasn’t stopped fans from holding out hope that they’ll see Star City 2040’s heroic trio save the day once again, as Arrow‘s executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that he’s constantly asked about the show’s fate on social media.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he offered a rather intriguing update on the future of the show, commenting:

"“I know things, but it’s up to CW and Warner Bros to publicise the things I know… Actually, it’s a little frustrating because people are constantly tweeting at me and I would love to answer, but there are certain things I’m not allowed to talk about until the powers-that-be decide we can.”"

The thing that makes this update particularly intriguing is the fact that Guggenheim revealed on social media over a month ago that “one way or another” they’d receive word on the fate of Green Arrow and The Canaries “very soon”. So by the sounds of his most recent response, it does sound like that decision might have been made. Or at very least, the-powers-that-be know more than they did last month.

What’s also interesting is the fact that The CW and Warner Bros. have chosen not to publicize this information yet. Surely, if they had passed on the show, they’d be quick to move on from it. With that in mind, could they be saving this announcement for the upcoming DC Fandome event later this month? There will be a strong Arrowverse presence, so there’s a solid chance it could happen.

Until then, let’s keep holding out hope for Green Arrow and The Canaries!
