Batman Beyond (Rebirth)

If you’re a fan of the Batman Beyond animated series, well then there’s good news for you: The current run of Batman Beyond comics is a fantastic encapsulation of that series. It’s set in the DC Universe, so there are some slight continuity differences between the show and this, but it’s as close to feeling like a sequel series as that show will ever have.

Focusing on Terry McGinnis as Batman several decades in the future, this series is fantastic in capturing the heart that the animated show carried. It’s a pure fun joyride that manages to combine elements and characters present within the show, as well as elements from the comics, and organically bring them together and make them feel natural. It’s not the deepest series ever, but that’s okay as it’s simply a joy to read most of the time.

Plus, Terry isn’t the only character to take up a legacy mantle in this series as Robin Beyond and Batwoman Beyond have also been introduced, with the latter holding a special place in this writer’s heart. She was only introduced in issue No. 37, but quickly has become one of my favorite characters.

The series is currently still ongoing, having recently released issue No. 45, but it doesn’t start with issue No. 1 though. Like most of the DC Rebirth line, there is a special one-shot that kicks off the series and the same is true here.
