DC Fandome: First look at The Suicide Squad has been revealed
We finally get a first look into casting decisions and behind-the-scenes footage from James Gunn’s: The Suicide Squad and it looks like a home-run!
The Suicide Squad was given its own 45-minute panel during the early hours of DC Fandome and it was quite remarkable.
The panel’s first major reveal was a somewhat-detailed breakdown of who has been cast in each of the EIGHTEEN character roles.
Here’s who has landed each role:
The best part of this panel was watching the entirety of the cast interact with each other and Gunn himself. In watching the chaotic 45 minutes, it was clear the entire panel had fun together (especially ripping on Michael Rooker) and if they brought even a fraction of the energy from the panel to their individual roles, this movie should be quite excellent!
Additionally from the panel, we’ve learned the film will focus on the John Ostrander era of Suicide Squad comic books. In offering his description of the film, Director James Gunn notes “It’s going to be different from any superhero movie ever made.” While the presentation did not include a trailer for The Suicide Squad, it did end with an epic behind-the-scenes look at the film so far:
In the opening moments of the footage, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man) says “There’s no one better in the world to direct The Suicide Squad, than James Gunn.”

- All 8 Black Canary actresses ranked from worst to best
I happen to agree with his sentiments. Think about what Gunn did with the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Gunn successfully took a team that was one of the lesser-known squads to comic book fans and unknown to individuals who only watched films in the MCU and made them superstars in every sense of the term.
Gunn’s mix of gritty action and humor across the spectrum may make him the perfect individual to get The Suicide Squad back into the proper light they deserve and deliver a very much needed home run for the DCEU.
The Suicide Squad is set to release on August 6, 2021.
