Gotham Knights: What we need from each member of the Bat-Family

Dick Grayson: Nightwing

Dick Grayson was Batman’s first sidekick and the most popular of all time. We may have looked at him like a sidekick, but Batman always looked at him as his partner and son. When he got older, however, Dick became his own man. He became Nightwing. A hero, leader, and the savior of Blüdhaven.

Nightwing will undoubtedly take Bruce’s apparent death in Gotham Knights harder than anyone. Because of that, he will step up and become the person who carries out Batman’s vision more than the others. We’re going to see Nightwing lead the Bat-family into a new era.

During Gotham Knights, each of the team members are going to argue and struggle at some point or another. Red Hood may go too far, Robin may become too focused on his Belfry upgrades, and Batgirl probably isn’t over the death of her father Commissioner Gordon. It’ll be up to Dick to keep them together.

This isn’t going to be like the Teen Titans where a lot of them looked up to Nightwing because of his time with Batman. These are his siblings and peers. They’ve all gone through the same training as Dick. Each of them is going to question him in their own way. But Nightwing must be the leader and keep them all focused and ensure they remain a family. Look for Barbara to be his rock during all of this while he becomes the rock for the whole team of heroes.

It sounds simple, but it won’t be. Nonetheless, Nightwing will be up for the challenge.
