The Batman is a psychological crime thriller following the face of vengeance in a corrupt Gotham City unlike anything we’ve ever seen before

There was a reason DC FanDome saved Matt Reeves’ The Batman for last. The Caped Crusader is arguably the most recognizable hero in DC Comics. Good Time actor Robert Pattinson has all eyes on him as the man playing The Dark Knight.

The polarizing aura surrounding this Batman had fanatics on edge, anxiously waiting for something more than BTS photos, rumors, and false reports. DC FanDome did not disappoint. Pattinson introduced Matt Reeves, who gifted us with insight and more. Including a trailer for a film that’s only 25% complete.

For a while, we’ve known The Batman would not tell the origin story of Gotham’s Dark Knight. Instead, we’re getting a story about a character who’s in his second year of heroism, but he’s no hero. Reeves warns that this is a criminological experience that allows fans to ride the realistic journey of Bruce Wayne being Batman. As fans, we’ll get to see the mistakes he makes and what drives him unlike any adaptation we’ve seenr before.

Furthermore, Gotham hasn’t accepted the brooding dark figure as a symbol of hope. He’s still feeling everything out and coming into his own as a hero. As of now, Batman is a mythical figure lurking in the shadows picking fights with bad guys. He’s not the symbol of hope, but the face of vengeance.

This version of the Dark Knight points to the psychological aspect of being a hero – a vision Reeves hopes will help this film feel unique. It’s also why the director took a different approach to the Batsuit and Gotham City. Not just visually, but from a narrative perspective.
