T’Challa confronts his father in the spirit realm

After being found at the edge of the river by Jabiri fishermen, T’Challa is found to be alive but only just. M’Baku ‘keeps him on ice’ and when Ramonda, Shuri, Ross, and Nakia arrive seeking help, they are taken to the defeated king. After being given the heart-shaped herb, the former Black Panther is taken to the spirit realm where he is reunited with his father.

T’Chaka tries to convince his son to join him, but T’Challa refuses and instead demands to know why Erik was abandoned after his father’s death.

The late king tells T’Challa that his nephew was a truth that he ultimately chose to ignore because he chose his country and people over a child who needed his family. This upsets Black Panther which causes him to lash out and say it was wrong to abandon the rest of the world just because the other nations did not agree with the way they operated.

Chadwick showed T’Challa’s struggle to understand his father’s decision to abandon Killmonger with absolute gusto. In saying that, seeing the raw emotion in his face as he delivers the dialogue definitely tugs at the heartstrings.

The Black Panther returns

One of the most iconic moments in Black Panther comes when Killmonger watches as one of the warbird aircrafts is shot out of the sky. When the smoke clears, T’Challa emerges in the Black Panther suit and announces that he is still very much their king.

What makes this scene so memorable is how T’Challa isn’t giving up and is willing to fight his cousin for his kingdom even if it means he dies again.

Chadwick’s performance in this one sequence shows he can play serious and sarcastic at the same time without it coming off as sloppy or weird. We’ve marked this as one of the Marvel moments we’ll always cherish from Boseman.
