During DC FanDome, The Flash director Andy Muschietti revealed what fans can expect from the tone of the DCEU movie.

DC FanDome descended upon comic book fans for the second weekend in a month for another 24 hours of wonderful exclusives and intriguing reveals from the world of DC comics, TV shows, films and video games. Upcoming DCEU movie The Flash was at the center of some of those reveals as a number of Q&A panels allowed the cast and crew to shed some light on what fans can look forward to from Ezra Miller’s solo debut as the Scarlet Speedster.

When asked about the tone of his film, director Andy Muschietti answered:

"“My Flash is not gonna be light or dark in tone. It’s gonna have everything.”"

He then went on to elaborate further, revealing that the film is going to have a very “deep emotional story” but that it would also be “very funny” and a “great epic adventure” that will sometimes be a little “terrifying”.

A little bit of everything for The Flash

Not to state the obvious, but it really does sound like the film is going to have a little bit of everything. That’s a good thing because the DCEU’s tone is a regular concern for fans, with some of the earlier adaptations being a little too grim while attempts to lighten that darkness in Justice League just came off as corny.

Barry Allen, however, is one of the characters who worked well in the 2017 film because he is an inherently light-hearted hero with a dark backstory. And from Andy Muschietti’s comments, it’s clear that The Flash film is going to showcase that with a tone that encapsulates all of that.

The Flash is set for release on June 3, 2022.
