In a twist out of left field, it looks like Electro will be joining the MCU’s upcoming Spider-Man 3, albeit with a familiar face.

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Foxx is reportedly in talks to reprise his role of Electro in the next installment of the MCU‘s Spider-Man franchise, which is set to begin filming this fall. Foxx previously played the role of Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Foxx won’t be the first actor to reprise their role in this current Spider-Man series as JK Simmons did so as J. Jonah Jameson in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. As of now, it’s unclear whether the version of Electro that Foxx will be playing in Spider-Man 3 will be different than The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he will more than likely be playing a new version of the character.

How big a role will Electro play in Spider-Man 3?

Foxx’s previously portrayal of Electro is often maligned, as is The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in general, but Foxx is an incredible actor and if given the right script to work, he could make an amazing villain. However, this report doesn’t go into detail about how big of role that he will play in the film.

Will he be the main villain, which this current series has done a great job of highlighting lesser-known villains in Spidey’s rogues gallery, or will it be a cameo like JK Simmons?

There’s also a large possibility that the film will play similar to the story, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies where a bounty is placed on Superman and Batman’s heads, so villains from all over start hunting them. If this is what the MCU entry ends up doing, even on a smaller scale, an assassin version of Electro would be really fun to see.

Nevertheless, it seems like Marvel, or at least Sony, is willing to embrace the inclusion of actors they have previously used, so it will be interesting to see who else they might bring back in the future.
