When does The Walking Dead season 11 return to screens?

The Walking Dead season 11 is all that fans of the long-running AMC franchise can think about right now. The season 10 finale has come and gone (after a long wait) and now viewers are wondering what remains ahead for the long-running zombie TV drama.

With Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) going up against Alpha (Samantha Morton), the show’s tenth season – like the rest of the show – featured a number of intriguing character arcs and a lot of intense moments, but will the show save the best for last with season 11?

The Walking Dead season 11 premiere date

The Walking Dead normally arrives on AMC for its latest season in the fall. However, that won’t be happening this year because the outbreak of the novel coronavirus delayed production.

As of now, The Walking Dead‘s 11th and final season is expected to return sometime in 2021 to air half of its bumper 24 episodes. As the second half of the season will air in 2022, it’s likely that season 11 won’t commence until the beginning of fall 2021.

The Walking Dead season 11 cast

The cast of The Walking Dead has changed dramatically over the course of its run as the deaths and departures of many popular characters has reflected the harsh zombie apocalypse they were living in. While there will probably be some changes in the final season, expect to see most of the familiar faces return.

With that, expect to see Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier), Christian Serratos (Rosita Espinosa), Josh McDermitt (Eugene Porter), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel Stokes), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Khary Payton (Ezekiel) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) reprise their roles in some capacity. Moreover, we also know that Lauren Cohan will be returning in a regular role as Maggie Greene.

As it’s the final season, don’t be surprised if we see a number of familiar faces show up as well. Maybe we’ll even see Andrew Lincoln return as Rick Grimes… who knows?

The Walking Dead season 11 trailer

In previous years, a new trailer for The Walking Dead‘s upcoming season would drop at San Diego Comic-Con but that couldn’t happen this year because production wasn’t able to resume at its normal time.

As pre-production – and, by extension, production itself – has not yet begun on The Walking Dead season 11, there unfortunately isn’t any trailer available for the season as of yet simply because there is no new footage.

What is The Walking Dead season 11 about?

Right now, it’s hard to know what The Walking Dead season 11 is actually about. Fans will know that it usually delves into its primary characters and their struggles to survive in a world overrun by the undead, but each season usually has its own standalone threat as well.

As production has yet to begin, it’s simply too early to tell what comes next for the gang. That said, don’t be expecting them to return the world to normal as both the planned Carol and Daryl spin-off and The Walking Dead: World Beyond spin-off suggest that the apocalypse will continue well into the future.

However, as it’s the final season, we can expect some kind of closure for most of the characters to bring this iconic chapter of TV history to an end.
