Jared Leto will be reprising the role of The Joker in the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League.

The DC Extended Universe is continuing to grow and evolve as it moves into a new era, but it won’t do that without giving fans the original version of what it was once building towards. We are, of course talking about Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, it seems that the new/old version will feature a character that the theatrical edition did not: The Joker.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jared Leto will be reprising his role as The Joker in the Snyder Cut of the 2017 film as the star has joined the reshoots – reshoots that also feature the likes of Ben Affleck (who returns as Batman) and Ray Fisher (who reappears as Cyborg).

A redemption for the DCEU Joker

Leto’s Joker appeared in only one film and that was the critically-reviled Suicide Squad. Though anticipation was high, many felt that the film was a complete injustice to the Joker character and that Leto wasn’t given the chance to show what he was capable of. This was reinforced by the fact that some of the trailer’s most alluring scenes never actually featured in the film.

More from DCEU

The fact that Leto is returning to the DCEU in Snyder’s Justice League and finally may get the chance to interact with Ben Affleck’s Batman in a face-to-face capacity suggests that the DCEU is finally ready to do right by the character and, as a result, could offer Leto a chance to redeem The Joker with stronger material.

Who knows at this point, but it might be nice to actually see this Joker as he was meant to be seen.
