The CW has revealed when Riverdale season 5 arrives on screens and fans are understandably excited.

Riverdale is a staple of The CW’s schedule and has been so since its arrival in 2017. However, the show has been off screens for a number of months now because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. But now, after a long wait, The CW has revealed when Riverdale season 5 will premiere on TV screens.

The show will make its long-awaited return on Wednesday, January 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET. It’s one of the network’s first returning shows to make its presence felt but it won’t be alone in returning as The CW also unveiled the return dates for Arrowverse shows BatwomanBlack Lightning and The Flash as well as the premiere date for Superman and Lois.

Riverdale season 5 can’t come quick enough

Riverdale wrapped its fourth season with an impromptu finale because production was shut down due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. As production wasn’t able to resume until last month, the remaining season 4 episodes will be carried over into season 5 before a time-jump will kick off the fifth season’s planned storyline.

More from TV

The show has a reputation for being a little out-there with its bonkers storylines and off-the-wall theatrics – which sometimes garners it quite a bit of criticism – but the truth is that this is exactly the kind of ridiculous escapism fans are craving right now.

With that in mind, it’s understandable that fans are chomping at the bit for its return. The fact that we all now have a release date makes its return much more tangible because it means that it won’t be long before we get to catch up with Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Cheryl Blossom, Kevin Keller, Toni Topaz, Fangs Fogarty and the rest of the Riverdale crew and see what kind of adventures Varchie, Bughead, Choni and Kangs get up to.

It’s been a long time coming but, quite frankly, we all could do with some Riverdale right now. Thank goodness we won’t have to wait much longer.
