5 horror comic books screaming for the screen

Crossed centers on a virus that unleashes the darkest, sickest impulses of mankind – one that turns people into violent maniacs. With cross patterns on their faces, the Crossed destroy all semblance of civilized society in gruesome fashion and do so with some sense of joy about it.
Garth Ennis is known as a master of exploring the most evil side of man in his works like Preacher and The Boys. As bleak as those series can go, they don’t touch Crossed. The Crossed are infected, but they aren’t mindless zombies. They buck the zombie trope by maintaining their human abilities but losing all reservation about committing the most sickening of acts to each other. They can do anything and are willing to do worse. After a few issues of Crossed, The Walking Dead feels tame.
Crossed spun off in a few directions after Ennis completed the story he set out to do. A series on a steamer or premium network would make a lot of sense. Today’s audience may have more of a stomach for it than 10 years ago when rumors of a film were kicked around. With TWD spawning two additional TV series, the small screen would be an oyster of possibilities for Crossed. A blood-soaked, gut-spewing oyster…
