DC will make history by introducing fans to a new non-binary Flash in the next crossover installment Future State.

We have seen a ton of iconic speedsters grace the pages of DC Comics over the years. From The Flash to Impulse, you can never venture too far into the world of DC without coming across a few members of the legendary Flash Family.

That family is set to grow once more in the upcoming event DC Future State. As revealed by Screen Rant, the crossover event will see DC introduce their first ever non-binary speedster.

The character will be related to Jesse Quick. Their name is Jess Chambers, their superhero alias Kid Quick and they are from Earth-11. They will be genderfluid and use they/them pronouns.

It seems that this new Flash will first show up in DC’s upcoming A Very Merry Multiverse before going on to play a major role in the Future State event (which will also introduce audiences to a multitude of other new heroes).

A major step forward for representation

It goes without saying that the decision to introduce a non-binary superhero is a welcome step forward for representation and it’s even more striking that they are part of a family as iconic as the Flash Family.

More from Comics

We shouldn’t be surprised, really. DC Comics has been upping the ante in terms of representation over the years, giving audiences LGBTQ+ characters in Harley Quinn, Alan Scott’s Green Lantern and Hartley Rathaway’s Pied Piper. And speaking of Piper, he is just one of the many LGBTQ+ characters featured in The CW’s live-action The Flash TV series (and, indeed, the wider Arrowverse).

Who knows, maybe we’ll see Jess Chambers featured on the show some day. Either way, their introduction into DC Comics is a momentous occasion that should definitely be celebrated.
