James Gunn has confirmed that we’ll see this beloved MCU character return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still very much figuring itself out. As it moves into Phase 4, it will place the focus on new up-and-coming heroes while some of the more established heroes from the first three phases will take a backseat. That said, there will still be some familiar faces in the MCU going forward, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The galaxy-traversing justice-fighting space pirates will return in James Gunn’s third film in the franchise Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Though not much is known in terms of the plot and which characters will be featured in it, Gunn recently confirmed that one of the MCU’s major Guardians would be returning. The Guardian in question: Drax The Destroyer.

When asked on social media about whether Dave Bautista would be returning, the director simply responded:

"“Would I do a Guardians movie without @DaveBautista?”"

It might seem a little obvious given that Drax is a key player in the Guardians movies but nothing is certain when it comes to Marvel right now considering how the MCU is evolving significantly.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Yes, Drax’s return probably means we’ll see Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Karen Gillan reprise their roles as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Racoon, Baby Groot and Nebula, but what of Chris Hemsworth? Will he return as Thor given that the Asgardians of the Galaxy were about to take flight in Avengers: Endgame.

Regardless of that, right now, we’re all glad to know that Bautista will be returning to the beloved role in the third movie.
