What awaits the Scarlet Speedster in The Flash season 7?

It won’t be long until The Flash season 7 speeds its way onto our screens. The Arrowverse veteran will be a little later this year because of the delays caused by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus earlier in the year but production on the show has resumed and it will now return in February 2021.

The Scarlet Speedster and Team Flash had their hands full battling the multiverse-shattering event Crisis On Infinite Earths that had long been fated to happen. But when Barry Allen wasn’t busy avoiding half-decade-long prophecies of doom, he was battling secret organizations, mutated monsters and an old enemy who just won’t leave him alone (not-to-mention a new one too).

But what lies ahead for the show’s primary hero in the coming year? Where will 2021 ultimately take The Flash season 7 and all involved? Questions will undoubtedly be answered and many more will be asked in the process. But before all that happens, we’ll explore what awaits these characters with our very own character previews.

After kicking things off with Iris West-Allen last week, let’s set our sights on the leading man: Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).

Where we left off with Barry in season 6

It would be wrong to suggest that Barry Allen didn’t experience a number of harrowing events in previous seasons – because, honestly, it’s a given at this point – but season 6 may have been his most tumultuous year yet.

In the season’s 19 episodes, The Flash had to compete against one of Caitlin’s old friends who had single-handedly crafted himself an army of loyal zombies (and also figured out a way to transform into a giant fleshy monster), a secret organization that eviscerated anyone who discovered their secrets, separation from his wife by a mirror-hopping menace, the loss of the Speed Force (and, by extension, his speed) and, oh yeah, death itself in the Crisis.

With Barry’s wife still trapped in the Mirrorverse, his speed almost all gone, the Speed Force extinct and Mirror Master in control, The Flash season 7 is going to be another intense season for Central City’s savior.
