Titans season 3: Anna Diop shines in our first look at Starfire’s suit

We’ve only been waiting for three seasons! Starfire finally dons her supersuit in new promo images from Titans season 3.

There may not be a new season of the former DC Universe show this year, but that doesn’t mean the showrunners have stopped teasing fans about Titans season 3.

After getting our first look at the live-action debut of Red Hood, HBO Max has now shared an image and concept art of Anna Diop’s Starfire in her full superhero regalia.

Diop’s Koriand’r of Tamaran (or Kory Anders to her friends on Earth) appeared on the show from the second episode of the series, but her stylish wardrobe has been conspicuously missing a supersuit. Not anymore.

The Titans costume designer, Laura Jean Shannon, has captured the hues and aesthetic of Starfire’s comic book costumes while updating it for the 21^st century. Starfire will be back in purple, but which wig will complete Diop’s outfit? Gina DeDomenico’s concept art shows Starfire with straight hair, while the image of Diop shows her with her big, curly wig.

It’s time for Starfire to get more screen time on Titans season 3.

Starfire was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez in 1980 and has remained a part of DC Comics ever since. She literally crash-landed on Earth and immediately joined the Titans, then led by Dick Grayson/ Robin.

Unfortunately, while the character has evolved over the years from having a violent bent of mind to being a kinder member of her teams, Starfire has often been handled poorly. The character’s costumes have been particularly problematic, which makes the Titans season 3 outfit a practical and much-needed change.

While in the comics, Starfire is often seen at an equal level to Robin, the show hasn’t given Diop as much screen time or much of a character arc. Thankfully she hasn’t been stuck as a love interest for Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), but she hasn’t seen much character development either.

Kory will be coming face-to-face with her sister, Blackfire (Damaris Lewis), and will be uncovering secrets of her past that will likely lead her to adopt her Starfire identity. Fans can expect a ‘big season’ for Starfire when the show returns. Diop should have been given more screen time from the very beginning. All we can say is, it’s been a long time coming.

Titans will be making the jump from DC Universe to HBO Max. Alongside Diop, the returning cast for Season 3 is Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson/Nightwing), Teagan Croft (Rachel Roth/Raven), Ryan Potter (Garfield Logan/Beast Boy), Conor Leslie (Donna Troy/Wonder Girl), Curran Walters (Jason Todd/ Red Hood), Joshua Orpin (Conner Kent/Superboy), Alan Ritchson (Hank Hall/Hawk) and Minka Kelly (Dawn Granger/Dove).

Titans season 3 is currently filming and is scheduled to stream on HBO Max in 2021.
