9. The Battle for the Mother Boxes

Comic book Project: Justice League

This writer is in the minority of people who actually enjoyed Justice League. Was it everything it could have been? Of course not. Then again, what is? There is no such thing as a perfect movie (except V for Vendetta). We could pick apart the iconic Dark Knight Trilogy and Avengers: Infinity War and probably find things we didn’t like. But those movies shattered our high but fair expectations. The problem with Justice League were the unbelievably high expectations.

People wanted everything they got from the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the DCEU attempted to get there without building the franchise first. This led to things seeming rushed – and one scene in particular sticks out, highlighting one of the major reasons why: The Battle of the Mother Boxes should have been a movie in itself.

That scene looked amazing. Imagine having that story before getting to Justice League. It would have helped lead up to the movie and set the stage for it. There would have been more backstory to Steppenwolf, Apokolips, and the Mother Boxes. Plus, we could have seen Darkseid.

The best part could have been seeing the Green Lantern Corps fighting alongside the Themyscirans and the Atlanteans. Beyond the battle, we could have learned more about each of the cultures. Maybe there was a deeper meaning to why Themyscira abandoned the world and went into seclusion. Instead, we got a scene that wasn’t even two minutes long. This was a missed opportunity.
