FanSided 250: Why it’s right Wonder Woman fans ranked so high
By Mark Lynch
Not having a movie theater release didn’t stop Wonder Woman fans as her fandom performed well in the FanSided 250.
Wonder Woman is an icon for comic book fans and strong women. She’s never backed down from a challenge (physical or otherwise), won’t let anyone put her down, and always defends those who can’t fight back.
These are the things that make her a hero. Her super strength, flight, and superior fighting prowess come second. Diana Prince will always be one of the elite superheroes in comic books. Wonder Woman 1984 being delayed didn’t discourage her fans. The FanSided 250 list proves that. She ranked 93rd overall and 2nd in movies.
Wonder Woman 1984 is among the most anticipated films of 2020. The only related movie topic ranked higher on the FanSided 250 list was Marvel – a topic with dozens of sub-sections.
There is a lot that goes into Wonder Woman that’s kept her in people’s thoughts. The first thing that comes to mind is Gal Gadot. She’s just amazing and her fans love her for it.
Moreover, Warner Bros was releasing Wonder Woman 1984 trailers at a perfect pace. We’ve seen how companies can put out too many trailers at a time which has a tendency to spoil the project in question because you see too much and it feels like you’ve seen the entire film. That’s not the case here though – everything that was revealed in relation to Wonder Woman 1984 was flawlessly done – the footage of Wonder Woman swinging from lightning, her wearing her golden armor and Steve Trevor’s reveal were all exciting aspects of the film that kept fans talking about the film over the past year.

On the topic of not spoiling too much, fans must appreciate not seeing too much of Cheetah. Admittedly, we all would have loved to see her in action but the reveal glimpse we caught of her in the second trailer was well worth the wait. And it should have taken away any doubt that Kristen Wiig was the right choice to play the role. After this, Cheetah may become a character everyone knows as well. It seems like the creators learned from the mistake they made with Ares.
Wonder Woman fans are some of the best in both comic book and entertainment fandoms. You’ll rarely find them doing anything but sharing their love for their character – all of which makes celebrating Diana a much more enjoyable experience. We’ve all seen in the past how tension within fandoms can take away from something you’d otherwise enjoy – it’s certainly happened to this writer! – but that’s not the case here. So, shout out to the Wonder Woman fandom.
Here’s to breaking the Top 100 and having some of the best fans in comics and beyond.
