Rachel McAdams returning to Doctor Strange 2
Rachel McAdams is returning to Doctor Strange 2.
Rachel McAdams will be reprising her role in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the follow-up to 2016’s Doctor Strange, which was directed by Scott Derrickson. This news was previously reported by Deadline.
Also returning from the first movie are Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Dr. Stephen Strange, Wong and Karl Mordo, respectively, while Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff will come in off her WandaVision miniseries, which premieres the Disney Plus era of Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows on January 15.
Interestingly for non-superheroic leading ladies in the MCU, Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer is not a love interest, instead being a former girlfriend of Strange and his colleague as a surgeon at an elite New York City hospital. They remain on friendly terms, however, which makes their relationship stand out pleasantly.

Christine helped him put his life back together after his car accident, and attempted to save the life of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), though this was unsuccessful. Her surprise at the portals caused by the sling rings was one of the comedic highlights.
Rachel McAdams is most famous for starring in The Notebook, Wedding Crashers and Mean Girls, and other movies in her filmography include About Time, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Spotlight, while her most recent movie was the Will Ferrell musical Eurovision.
Since the plot details of the film aren’t really certain at this point, how the Canadian actress will fit into the post-Snap mid-2020s world of the MCU remains to be seen, though presumably Christine is still practicing medicine, and perhaps will come to the aid of a mortally-wounded character throughout the course of the plot.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2022 as the 29th movie in the MCU, closing out Phase Four.
