Black Widow was accurately placed on the FanSided 250 list.
This year will mark the first in over a decade where there are no new Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Black Widow was supposed to release in May but it was delayed due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
In spite of the delay, people were talking about the film – which features Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff in her solo movie where she goes up against Taskmaster and even her own sister Yelena.
That’s right – Black Widow cracked the FanSided 250 without the movie even being released. Not only that, she just missed the Top 100 overall ranking in at 103, coming an impressive 3rd in movies. This just highlights the popularity of Marvel Studios’ movies.
Black Widow was an interesting choice for the MCU’s 24th film. It wasn’t necessarily the movie that every fan wanted. This wasn’t because of the character – fans have been asking for a Black Widow film for years – but the fact that it was a prequel, showcasing the character prior the game-changing events of Avengers: Endgame instead of doing her justice in the present.
With the next phase on the horizon, some were also hoping that the next entry would be set in the present – one that could have begun the next phase of the MCU. Now, Black Widow will have WandaVision and possibly The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before its release. If these two anticipated projects do go out before the film, they will also do a great deal in getting people excited for Black Widow‘s premiere.
Nonetheless, Black Widow has always had a legion of supporters so it’s not that surprising that she’s performed well. The film’s delay may have also played a role in this performance as people were regularly searching for any news related to the movie.
There were all sorts of random fan theories and questions about the project. Who was Taskmaster under the mask? Was he Clint Barton? Will Omega Red be mentioned to let fans know mutants are coming? Will the end credit scene show that Natasha is alive? And these are only a few of the questions that people wanted to know.

Black Widow’s movie may not have come out, but that didn’t stop her from having an impact on comics. Kelly Thompson is currently writing an incredible Black Widow story. It may not have been connected to the movie, but it would have helped the novice fan see her for the badass hero she is. Natasha also popped up in the Taskmaster mini-series. She’s currently hunting him because he’s (possibly) been framed for the murder of Maria Hill.
Speaking of Taskmaster, he is set to make his big screen debut in Black Widow. After seeing a few clips of him in the trailer, new fans may have searched “Who is Taskmaster?” to find out what his connection was to the movie. Plus, he was a villain in Marvel’s Avengers game. Natasha fought him in the very beginning.
Marvel was making certain to keep Black Widow’s name in people’s mind. It’s no wonder she ranked 103 even without the release of her movie. Furthermore, fans love Natasha Romonoff. She’s one of the best spies in any comic book genre and kicks butt all over the world – sometimes even in space. It’s no surprise that her fans would keep an eye on what’s going on with her film.
Since the release was delayed, the wait for its debut definitely heightened anticipation for it. It gave people more time to research the character, the other characters and the film’s release itself. She performed well in spite of the odds and if her ranking doesn’t go up in the FanSided 250 in 2021, it’ll be shocking.
