The Joker will finally get the solo spotlight as he headlines as he is getting an ongoing comic book series in 2021
The Joker made his comic book debut in 1940. Who would have thought it would take another 81 years for him to get his own solo comic book series?
If you look at all of the characters that received ongoing runs, you’d assume that Joker would be among them. Look at Red Hood. Jason Todd was one of the most hated characters in comic book history and he was given a series before the Clown Prince of Crime. It may have taken a long time, but it’s finally happening. According to IGN, Joker will have an ongoing series starting in March of 2021.
Current Batman writer James Tynion IV will be writing The Joker’s new run. It will come after the events of Joker War. According to IGN, he’s still dealing with Batman leaving him for dead – something he never saw coming. How will he deal with realizing he doesn’t know Batman as well as he thought? It looks like we’ll find out.

As interesting as that is, something even more intriguing will happen. He’s being hunted by Bane and Commissioner Gordon. For James Gordon, he’s about to retire. Before that, he wants to bring him to justice once and for all. Considering the hell that he’s put him through, this isn’t shocking. Bane’s reasoning, however, is different.
In Batman: The Joker War Zone, The Joker visited Bane in his prison cell, mocked him and then chastised him for what he did in City of Bane. His exact wording was that he was “disappointed” in him, adding that he believed he wasted the opportunity to kill Alfred in front of Batman. He went on to say, “You’re not the man who broke Batman anymore. You’re the man who broke the baby bird.” He let Bane know that he was going to pay for wasting that opportunity.
We know that Joker doesn’t make threats. He makes promises. Apparently, Bane took that seriously.
The Joker’s ongoing series is destined to be a hit with readers. Besides the fact that he’s one of the most popular villains in pop culture, he has two A-list characters chasing him. Having Commissioner Gordon and Bane in the mix adds a new interesting layer. The big question is what happens after that. We love The Clown Prince of Crime, but is he enough to keep a series going on his own? I guess we’ll find out.
