Wonder Woman 3: Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins returning to DCEU sooner than you think
By Scott Brown
Wonder Woman 1984 has been out in the world for two days and we already have news about another film of the Princess of Themyscira’s franchise. Spoilers for Wonder Woman 1984 follow.
As reported by Deadline, Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, released a statement announcing a third film in the Wonder Woman DCEU franchise, with Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot returning for the film. Jenkins is attached to write and direct the upcoming third film with Gadot set to reprise her role as Diana of Themyscira.
"“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy.” – Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group"
The announcement of the fast-tracking of the third Wonder Woman film comes as the film has garnered a box office of $85 million worldwide, a massive amount given the current theater-going climate amidst a global pandemic.

It was clear in Wonder Woman 1984 that threads were being set for an eventual third film in the franchise, so it’s nice to have confirmation that the film is officially happening. Previously, Jenkins has said that her and co-writer Geoff Johns have a story for a third film planned out already, although she wasn’t sure that it was the film that she would be doing next.
With how Wonder Woman 1984 ends though, there are plenty of ways that the story could go, many of them including Barbara Minerva. One of the most likely ways that a third film could go would be to introduce Circe into the fold after Barbara seeks her out as she continues to crave the power that she just had a taste of during the third act of the film. Circe would also bring the Wonder Woman franchise into the larger world of Greek mythology that the comics have been using for decades. Plus, Circe is arguably Diana’s most powerful nemesis so it would great to see her in live-action.
