The top 10 best Marvel and DC comics of 2020
By Scott Brown
6. Immortal Hulk by Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Javier Rodriguez, Nick Pitarra, Butch Guice & Mike Hawthorne
From horrific kaiju to aliens to deformed geniuses to hell to a diner in New York, Immortal Hulk continues to be one of the best series on comic shelves month in and month out. From the beginning of this series all the way back in 2018, Immortal Hulk has been firing on all cylinders and this year is no different.
This series is such a brilliant character drama, masquerading as a horror comic and that’s why it succeeds so often. It uses its characters to reinforce the horrific circumstances on the page every single issue. And yes, I do mean horrific. It truly makes no sense how this book isn’t rated 17+ because it’s brutally violent.
The art is consistently phenomenal as well. Series regular Jon Bennett has always been the perfect artist for the haunting nature of this series and he continues to prove it throughout this year. However, he can’t draw every issue, but the fill-in artists never miss a step either. This is a series that should be hard to be call beautiful given the characters and subject matter, but that’s exactly what it is. This is a consistently beautiful book, month in and month out.
