The United Kingdom has entered another national lockdown and now we have an update on how that will impact production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday evening that the United Kingdom would be entering another national lockdown due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. Of course, that means that schools, bars, restaurants and non-essential shops will close while people are advised to remain indoors and work from home if at all possible.

Fans of the entertainment industry will remember how the first national lockdown impacted UK TV programs such as long-running soap operas like EastEndersCoronation Street and Emmerdale, which had to shut down production (like their American counterparts) because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Film productions also had to shut down because of the risk.

One film that was affected at the time was Matt Reeves’ The Batman – which was filming in the UK. The upcoming Batman movie that stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role was also forced to suspend production before eventually resuming months later. But what happens this time?

How will the UK lockdown affect The Batman production?

The Batman will be allowed to continue production in the UK. As reported by Deadline, UK TV and film productions will not be forced to shut down by this lockdown as they already have safety measures in place.

More from Batman

Like all productions across the world, it suspended filming back in March because there were no measures in place to combat the outbreak. Now, like all film and TV productions in the world, safety measures are indeed in place, meaning that the DC movie should carry on as it was prior to the lockdown announcement.

Star Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19 not long after production had resumed but after another two-week suspension, things returned to normal and principal photography has once again been underway ever since.

The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
