Multi-award winning actress Emma Stone has reportedly already signed on to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy from Webb’s Spider-Man reboot in Spider-Man 3, but until it’s confirmed by the actress herself, she has a place on this list. And let’s be honest, she more than deserves it.

Stone really committed to the role by doing research into the character (as she had previously assumed Mary Jane was the Webslinger’s first love). This research paid off a great deal as fans loved her performance.

Following the first entry of the franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man, in 2012, fans were head over heels over Stone’s performance and many applauded the fact that she was not portrayed as a damsel-in-distress. Empire praised her for standing out in the film’s sequel, adding that she was “the Heath Ledger of [this] series” because she did “something unexpected with an easily dismissed character.”

Gwen proved time and again that she was a worthy partner for Garfield’s Peter/Spider-Man and the actors depicted a better romantic subplot than even Tobey Maguire’s Spidey and Kirsten Dunst’s MJ in the Raimi trilogy. She also contributed to the main arc a great deal as she helped to defeat two villains: The Lizard and Electro.

She guided Spidey in how to cure Dr Curt Connors and prevent his attempt to affect mankind with a chemical cloud at Oscorp Tower. With Electro, she helped magnetize Spidey’s web-shooters to prevent them from being destroyed.

Unfortunately, neither Gwen nor Spider-Man were aware how grave a threat Oscorp actually was as Harry Osborn, in a desperate attempt to cure his condition, transformed himself into the demonic Green Goblin, and confronted the pair – which led to Gwen’s demise.

Stone is reportedly in negotiations to reprise her role in the Jon Watts-helmed Spider-Man 3, which is already racking up with quite a stellar cast (with Dunst also reportedly set to reprise her role as Mary Jane). It would be interesting to know how she takes to interacting with different Spider-Men and how the MCU would write her story given the outcome of the 2014 film.
