The cinematographer of Moon Knight, an upcoming Marvel show on Disney Plus, seemingly confirms the casting of Marc Spector.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding far and wide. Be it films or Disney Plus shows, there’s a property for everyone. One of the mysterious series on the horizon is Moon Knight. All we know so far is that Egyptian screenwriter and director Mohamed Diab will helm the show. Now, Gregory Middleton, cinematographer on the show, has seemingly confirmed who will be playing the lead.

Rumors have been floating about that Oscar Isaac is in the running to play Marc Spector, a former CIA agent with a personality disorder. According to Middleton’s Instagram post, shared by IGN, Isaac has indeed apparently been cast in the lead role.

Middleton’s post suggests that Moon Knight has already begun filming in Budapest. But, so far, neither Marvel nor Disney has verified this information, and Isaac himself has not reacted to the news either.

Moon Knight: Could Oscar Isaac be the MCU’s new hero?

Moon Knight is one of a huge slate of new MCU shows scheduled to stream on Disney Plus. Marc Spector has often been described as Marvel’s answer to Batman if the character suffered from multiple identities. We’ll also have to wait and see if and how the show addresses Marc’s mental illness.

It’s hard to argue against the excitement surrounding everyone’s favorite Isaac possibly joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has played a variety of roles and his range undoubtedly lends itself well to a character who displays multiple personalities.

But, given that Marc Spector receives his powers from an Egyptian god, and Moon Knight is being directed by an Egyptian creator, plus, Kevin Feige confirmed that the show would include Egyptian iconography, one can’t help but wonder whether an Egyptian actor may not have been a better choice for the lead. Isaac, after all, has played an Egyptian before, with very little success (we’re talking about his turn as En Sabah Nur in X-Men: Apocalypse).

As much as Marvel is to be lauded for finally expanding the diversity of its leading players, they’re still far behind on accurately casting their characters.

Moon Knight will be streaming on Disney Plus.
