Sony has once again moved the release date for Morbius
By Scott Brown
After a year of release schedules constantly changing, this trend looks to continue into 2021 as Spider-Man spin-off Morbius has changed its release date once again.
In hopes that theaters in the United States and around the world would be opened again in the spring of 2021, Sony made the decision to move Morbius to a spot that would make it the first blockbuster of 2021 and, possibly, a hit as people would be clamoring to be in theaters once again, no matter the film. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage, Sony has decided to hedge its bets and move Morbius from its March 19, 2021 release date.
When is Morbius released?
With Morbius‘ release date now no longer an option, Sony have opted to move it to a hopefully safer October 8 date.
The move of Morbius is just the first of the likely release date or VOD announcements that will come as the next few months progress.

Originally scheduled for a July 10, 2020 release, Morbius was initially pushed back a measly three weeks to July 31, before being delayed again to its previous March 2021 date. Odds are the reason that Sony pushed it back again instead of keeping the March date and putting in theaters and PVOD simultaneously (similar to what Wonder Woman 1984 did) is that Sony believes that the film can be another tentpole franchise.
Sony also doesn’t have a streaming service that desperately needs promotion like Warner Bros. has in HBO Max so, it would more than likely lose its investment in Morbius if they pulled a similar action that Warner Bros. did with Wonder Woman 1984.
When released, audiences will be able to see Jared Leto take on the role of Marvel character scientist Michael Morbius as he looks to discover a cure for the blood disease that he lives with. In his attempts to cure himself though, he comes infected with a form a vampirism that begins to consume him.
