Fox’s X-Men vs Fantastic Four movie: Everything we know
By Liam Clark
The Skrulls were to be introduced
According to reports that indicated the plot of the film was to be an adaptation of Civil War, the film would have also featured the shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls. This report also indicates that after the Civil War conflict had been solved, a mid-credits scene featuring the Skrulls invading Earth would have teased the next major crossover in the universe.
A threat in many spheres of Marvel adaptations, the Skrulls are shapeshifting aliens that invaded Earth through impersonating key figures on the planet. A film featuring the aliens would have likely seen them posing as members of both the Fantastic Four and X-Men, planting the seeds of mistrust introduced in the Civil War film.
The introduction of the Skrulls make sense in the film, as the Fantastic Four have history with the Skrull Empire. One of the most powerful members of the Skrulls, titled Super Skrull, is enhanced with their abilities.
If the proposed movie had went ahead, this would have showcased the first appearance of the Skrulls in live action. As a result of the movie’s cancellation, however, the Skrulls made their first live-action appearance in Captain Marvel instead.
In the 2019 film, the Skrulls are portrayed quite differently to what fans had expected, with many believing their introduction was going to lead to a major conflict with the alien race. Instead, the Skrulls led by Talos were revealed to have good intentions and aided both Captain Marvel and Nick Fury.
This may still change, as Disney have announced a Secret Invasion series, which will see both Nick Fury and Talos returning.
However, what is certain is that the Skrulls seemed to have bad intentions in the proposed X-Men vs Fantastic Four movie, with the film likely setting Fox up with a cinematic universe of their own. Hopefully we may get to see the Fantastic Four and X-Men team up against Skrulls in the MCU.
