It was previously revealed that Batwoman and Superman and Lois would be crossing over. Unfortunately that will no longer be happening.

Back when The CW revealed its 2020 – 2021 schedule, it confirmed that there would be an Arrowverse crossover this year but that it wouldn’t be as big as previous years. It was a pleasant surprise because many didn’t think there would be one after the game-changing Crisis On Infinite Earths and a smaller one would allow The CW’s shared universe of superheroes some time to regroup after such a major event.

With that, it was confirmed that we’d see a crossover between the latest Arrowverse shows in Batwoman and Superman and Lois. However, it has now been revealed that it unfortunately won’t be happening after all.

Why is the Batwoman and Superman and Lois crossover not happening?

TVLine have confirmed that the planned crossover between Batwoman and Superman and Lois will not be going ahead because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. As Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries explained, the shows “can’t cross crews due to the fear of exposure to COVID.”

This is something that will have major implications going forward as it means that both the title characters of Supergirl and Black Lightning may not be involved in any more crossovers as they are both gearing up for their final seasons – the former of which was a key player in almost all of them.

Batwoman star Javicia Leslie was looking forward to the possibility of crossing over with Black Lightning while Dries is upset that the current situation could mean that there won’t be anymore crossovers between Batwoman and Supergirl – two shows that were established as being pretty closely connected last season.

Batwoman season 2 debuts on The CW on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 8:00 p.m. ET. while Superman and Lois will arrive on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
