WandaVision featured a chilling reference to a former MCU character but is Pietro Maximoff returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

WandaVision‘s latest episode, “Now In Color”, once again proved why it’s one of the most compelling new shows on television. The Disney Plus series produced an installment inspired by the sitcoms of the 1970s as Wanda Maximoff found herself pregnant overnight.

However, as she and Vision attempted to hide her sudden pregnancy from the residents of WestView, the Scarlet Witch found herself alone with Geraldine and ultimately gave birth to twins Billy and Tommy. Once that happened, however, Wanda remarked how she missed her own twin brother Pietro Maximoff – leading to a chilling moment as the mysterious Geraldine somehow knew what happened to him.

Who is Pietro Maximoff in the MCU?

Pietro Maximoff is the twin brother of Wanda. Portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who also co-starred with Elizabeth Olsen in Godzilla), he debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron and was the superhero known as Quicksilver.

Born in Sokovia, both Pietro and Wanda were vengeful towards Tony Stark because it was his weaponry that killed their parents. The pair were given powers by Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and joined forces with the villainous Ultron. However, upon seeing the destruction he had in mind for the world, the pair teamed up with the Avengers to stop him.

A speedster, Pietro was ultimately killed by Ultron when protecting Hawkeye and Costel. Wanda was heartbroken by his sacrifice and vowed to join the Avengers in his honor.

Will Quicksilver return in WandaVision?

Pietro could always end up returning in WandaVision. Since the show seems to be taking place inside an alternate reality that Wanda has seemingly created for herself, it’s possible that her happily-ever-after could include the return of her twin brother Pietro.

What’s also really interesting is that Evan Peters has been rumored to be joining WandaVision for sometime now. Peters, of course, played Quicksilver in Fox’s X-Men franchise. Now that Marvel obtained the rights to said X-Men franchise in the Disney-Fox merger, could we see his version of the character (called Peter Maximoff) show up instead?
