The Batman’s HBO Max Gotham PD spin-off has found its new showrunner…

With the president of DC Films, Walter Hamada, having his run extended for a number of years, it’s an exciting time for DC Comics’ live-action adaptations on the big screen.

Speaking of which, development on HBO Max’s The Batman TV spin-off series is underway and, after an initial setback, the show has found a new showrunner.

As reported by Deadline, a replacement for Boardwalk Empire‘s Terence Winter has been announced. That showrunner is British writer Joe Barton.

Who is the showrunner of the Gotham PD Batman spin-off?

Barton, hailing from London, UK, studied Film and Television Production at the University of Westminster. He started his writing career with comedy-drama Beaver Falls and then later wrote the sci-fi television series Humans for Channel 4 and AMC.

Barton is also responsible for the Tokyo and London set crime-drama series Giri/Haji for Netflix and the BBC.

Why did Terence Winter leave The Batman HBO Max spin-off?

It was announced last summer that a procedural drama spin-off series set to take place in the same continuity as The Batman received a direct to series order at HBO Max. The show will be executive-produced by Matt Reeves. Moreover, Terence Winter was brought on as showrunner. However, Winter departed the project a while back, with speculation suggesting that his departure may have been due to creative differences.

Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan and Dylan Clark are executive producers of the series. Rafi Crohn is co-executive producer. The Gotham PD spin-off will be produced under Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. It will arrive in the near future on HBO Max.

Centering on a young, but established caped crusader early on in his crime-fighting career, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Jayme Lawson and Peter Sarsgaard.
