Huntress – HBO Max

Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey introduced DCEU fans to a few characters. There are a few directions Walter Hamada can go, but none better than a character study on The Huntress. Helena Bertinelli has an interesting backstory. And thanks to Christina Hudson’s BoP script, it was just enough insight with a lot of wiggle room.

We saw a young Helena witness her parents’ murder in that movie. Like the comics, she trained to become what she needed to in order to avenge her family. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s portrayal as the socially awkward, murderous, bow-wielding vigilante was nothing short of amazing. There is plenty to explore post Birds of Prey, but a prequel would work well on HBO Max.

Giving us more of her character in a revenge flick following her exploits in Sicily would be money. A Huntress story could follow a young Helena in a campy-action film; Kick-Ass meets Kill Bill. And an actress like Rowan Blanchard (Snowpiercer) would be a perfect choice for a young Helena.

Winstead could return to narrate the film as she reminisces about her time in Sicily. With connections to Richard Dragon and Vic Savage, there would also be a linear connection to Lady Shiva. A HBO Max film could add to the story that Birds of Prey started, making Huntress into a household name.
